St. Patricks Day Activity – Scavenger Hunt Printable

I’ll have to admit I don’t know that much about Saint Patrick’s and I’ve never been too terribly into it. I think mostly because I didn’t really get the holiday and why we celebrate it. I know that a lot of people love it and do. I remember that in the 3rd grade a leprachaun came and left footprints all over the class room. I know I haven’t really taught my kids much about the holiday and have just played along with them as they’ve asked to make traps.

So I was thinking about the holiday and was wanting to do something fun as well as educational. Partially for them as well as for me so I thought of this fun St. Patricks Day activity, a scavenger hunt with clues as well as facts about the holiday and Ireland.

After making them up I decided to laminate them. Can I just say I love my laminator? I use it a lot because I teach music to the children at church and I found it helps keeps things in good condition you want to reuse. I’ve found as I have less and less time I am not very willing to do or make something if I can’t use it more than once (I still do but like to get the most bang for my buck!) So I’m planning on keeping these clues and using them at least for a few years. My laminator is an older version of this one and it has been working great for me for the past few years.

My son was nice enough and posed with them so he kind of knows what’s coming. Kind of. Good thing he’s not a great reader yet!

Again, one of my favorite things are the facts. I think it’s important to know why we celebrate holidays, not just all the fun, silly stuff. Don’t get me wrong, I love the fun silly stuff but I’m always trying to slip in some learning when I can! Plus we are a small, small part Irish, so they (and I) should know more about it.

I plan on doing the scavenger hunt with them and then have a prize at the end of some lucky charm cereal bars I bought. I debated having the ‘leprachaun’ hide the clues and treat but decided it would be from me.

  1. I love this! Especially since you added the educational facts! So fun 🙂

    • Thank you! Confession, I partially did it for me because I don’t know much about Saint Patricks Day or why we celebrate it!

  2. So cute! I love scavenger hunts and I love your idea of putting the facts on the cards.

    • My guys love scavenger hunts too and I’m wondering what they’ll think of the facts. I’m sure they won’t take time to look at that part during the hunt just because everyones in a rush to get to the next place but I plan on sitting down after we find the ‘pot of gold’ to talk about them. I think they’ll like it.

  3. My kids would love this! Thanks for linking up to TOO Cute Tuesday!
